The short version: email us within 30 days of a purchase and we will refund it. You do not have to explain why. If you bought through a marketplace, that marketplace's own guarantee applies instead — including AppSumo's 60 days.
Before you buy: check your Mac
SmoothCast needs an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 14 Sonoma or later. It will not run on an Intel Mac. This is the most common reason people ask for a refund, and it is entirely avoidable — the free trial lets you confirm the app runs on your machine before you pay anything.
The 30-day window
Email support@smoothcast.net within 30 days of your purchase and we will refund it in full. Include the email address you bought with so we can find the order. You do not need to give a reason.
This applies to your first purchase and to a renewal you did not intend — if a subscription renewed and you meant to cancel, tell us and we will refund the renewal and stop future ones.
How long it takes
We action refunds within one business day of your email. Once we do, the money is returned by whichever provider processed the payment, and how quickly it reaches you depends on them and your bank — typically five to ten business days for a card.
What happens to your licence
A refund ends the licence it paid for. In practice:
- Your licence is revoked and your Mac activations are released.
- The app returns to its unlicensed state the next time it checks in, which may take up to the offline grace period described in our Terms.
- Recordings you already made and exported remain yours. They are on your own disk and a refund does not touch them.
- Any active share links are deactivated, since sharing is a paid feature.
We would rather you export anything you still need before requesting the refund.
If you bought through a marketplace
Where you bought decides who refunds you, because they took the payment:
- Directly from smoothcast.net — email us and we will handle it.
- AppSumo — use AppSumo's own 60-day refund guarantee through your AppSumo account. It is longer than our window, and it applies instead of ours.
- Another marketplace — request the refund through that marketplace, under the guarantee shown on its checkout page. If you are not sure who to ask, email us and we will point you to the right place rather than leave you between two support desks.
Cancelling instead of refunding
Cancelling and refunding are different things. Cancelling stops the next payment and leaves your access running until the end of the period you have already paid for. Refunding returns your money and ends access. If you simply do not want to be billed again, cancel — you do not lose the time you have paid for.
Chargebacks
Please email us before disputing a charge with your bank. A chargeback costs us a fee, takes months to resolve, and automatically revokes the licence and flags the account — whereas an email gets you the same money back within a day. If you have already filed one, tell us and we will still help.
Repeat purchases
The guarantee is offered in good faith for people deciding whether SmoothCast works for them. We may decline it where the same person has already been refunded for the same product, or where a licence shows signs of key sharing or abuse. We will always explain our reasoning rather than quietly refuse.
Your statutory rights
Nothing here reduces rights you have under consumer law. In the UK, EU, and other regions you may have a statutory right to cancel a purchase within a set period, and a right to a remedy if software is faulty or not as described. Those rights apply in addition to this policy, and where the law gives you more than this page does, the law wins.
