The short version: you get a licence to use SmoothCast on up to three of your Macs. You keep all rights to everything you record. Subscriptions renew until you cancel, and you can cancel any time. We support Apple Silicon Macs on macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
1. Who we are
SmoothCast is macOS screen-recording software. "We", "us", and "our" refer to the operator of SmoothCast; "you" refers to the person or organisation using it. By installing or using SmoothCast you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.
2. What you need to run it
SmoothCast requires a Mac with Apple Silicon (M-series) running macOS 14 Sonoma or later. It does not run on Intel Macs or on earlier versions of macOS. Please check this before purchasing — it is the single most common cause of a refund request.
3. Your licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use SmoothCast for as long as your subscription or licence term is current.
- Devices — you may activate your licence on up to three Macs that you own or control. You can see and deactivate your active devices from your dashboard, which frees a slot for a new Mac.
- Licence keys are personal — do not publish, sell, or share your key. We may suspend a licence being used beyond its device allowance or distributed publicly.
- Offline use — the app validates your licence with our licensing service. Once validated it continues to work offline for a grace period (currently seven days for a paid licence, two for a trial), so a flight or an outage does not stop you working.
4. Free trial
New installs get a 14-day free trial after registering an email address. Trials are limited to one per email address and one per Mac. When a trial ends, the app stops exporting and sharing until you subscribe; recordings you already made remain yours and stay on your disk.
5. Your content is yours
You own everything you record, edit, and export with SmoothCast. We claim no licence over it. You are responsible for having the right to record what you record — including the consent of anyone whose voice, likeness, or private information appears in a recording, and any confidentiality obligations you are under.
If you create a share link, you are choosing to publish that recording to anyone holding the link. You must not use sharing to distribute unlawful material; we may remove a share and suspend an account where we are legally required to or where a share is plainly being used for abuse.
6. Subscriptions, renewal, and cancellation
- Prices, billing period, and renewal terms are shown at checkout before you pay. The price you see there is the price that governs your purchase.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the disclosed renewal price until you cancel.
- You can cancel at any time. Where a purchase was made through a third-party marketplace, cancellation is handled through that marketplace — the checkout page tells you which applies.
- After cancellation you keep access for the period you have already paid for, unless your purchase is refunded or reversed.
- If a payment fails we may suspend your licence until payment succeeds.
Refunds are covered by our Refund Policy, which forms part of these terms.
7. Changes to the app and to prices
We improve SmoothCast continuously and may add, change, or remove features. We will not remove a feature that was material to your purchase during a term you have already paid for. If we change the renewal price of an existing subscription, we will tell you before the change takes effect so you can cancel first.
8. Acceptable use
Do not reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to defeat the licensing in SmoothCast; do not redistribute or resell the app; and do not use it to break the law or infringe anyone's rights.
9. Third-party services
SmoothCast relies on services including Apple's macOS frameworks, our licensing provider, our payment providers, and our email provider. Their terms govern their own services. Captions use Apple's speech recognition — see our Privacy Policy for what that means for your audio.
10. Warranty disclaimer
SmoothCast is provided "as is". We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that it will meet a particular requirement. Nothing here excludes rights you have under consumer law that cannot be excluded — in many countries you have statutory rights in addition to these terms, and those rights are unaffected.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profits, or for lost or corrupted recordings, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Keep your own backups of work that matters.
12. Suspension and termination
You may stop using SmoothCast at any time. We may suspend or terminate a licence for a material breach of these terms — such as licence-key abuse or a chargeback — and where we do, we will tell you why.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date above shows the current version, and we will note material changes on this page. Continuing to use SmoothCast after a change means you accept the updated terms.
